Ubuntu Mate 18.04 Desktop Icons pushed around

This is a strange behaviour of the Mate desktop I have experienced
several times.
It is not clearly reproduceable, but every two weeks or so the desktop
shows some of the icons I maded on the desktop at wrong positions. When
I drag them back to their original position, this position is kept until
maybe next time. Not always the same icons are pushed around every time,
and they do not land at the same random position.
Needless to say that this is kinda annoying sometimes, and I don't know
if the LTSP base is the reason for this (maybe the "harddisk" connection
failing before the desktop can save the defaults?) or if this is a
well-known issue of Mate. I don't know Mate on another, "normal" computer.
Is there anyone here who has observed this too, and if so, is LTSP the
reason or is it Mate itself?
Thanks in advance for your input!
Regards
Rolf
