Hi there, I solved the problem and figured I document the solution here, as it might help other people running into the same problem. Gnome/Ubuntu did not work, as Xorg used the standard Vesa driver instead of the Intel driver, which has DRI support needed for modern Gnome/Ubuntu. Adding XSERVER="intel" to lts.conf solved the problem. Everything is working fine now, except for weird stripes showing up in Chrome browser and other little issues with 3D acceleration. My GPU is an IntelĀ® IrisĀ® Plus Graphics 655, which is rather new. I have installed Xorg hwe and hwe kernel but It might a few more iterations until everything works without flaw.
