Newbie question Netgear NIC

I have a Netgear NIC which I know works with the tulip driver. When I boot
with tomsrtbt no modules are loaded and the NOC appears dead. What am I
doing wrong? I looked everywhere including add-ons for the tulip driver
without luck.
