Is there a howto for ftpd?

Hi,

I have been looking for a guide for how to add ftpd but can't find any.
Could you please let me know where I could find one if it exists.

Otherwise any hints would be appreciated, please keep it simple - I don't 
know much about linux.

Ideally I would like to create a new disk with it installed but I have not 
got a clue how to go about it.
