Terminal error

Hello, 

when i try to execute, from a hosts booted with tomsrtbt of course, 
the "dialog" command from Debian Goody distribution, using "chroot" in 
a directory with a linux filesystem created, or any command that use 
more than normal print over the display (for example, programs in C 
which use graphics) i've got the following result:

 Error opening display: linux  

or something similar. I've observed that there is an enviroment 
variable (TERM) which contains that parameter "linux", but can't do 
anything else.

Can i do anything about that? Is there any way of making it work?
