I think you also have an other problem.
You must mount the floppy to /boot and then write the the files to it.
Lilo need files to load the chainloader.
Also the mapfile (created from lilo) must be on the floppy. 
After mounting i think that lilo knows also the geometry of the floppy, because
fd0 is only a generic device for the other fd0u.... .
