Most motherboards require that you remove the battery before shorting the pins to erase cmos memory. (or in newer motherboards, remove the short) Also, a utility from the eighties, cmoser11, had the capability of modifying settings, bypassing password. But you'll need a DOS(like) disk to boot from.
