It would help to know what type of NICs you are running..

have you run lsmod to se what modules are loaded... maybe its as simple as a
config issue in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 or
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1

also once you do find your module(s) dont forget to add them to the top of
your modules.conf like so:
alias eth0 tulip
alias eth1 tulip
