tar is behaving strange

It seems suddenly tar isn't listening to the -l flag anymore.
From the man page:
-l, --one-file-system
stay in local file system when creating an archive
--one-file-system is working, but I have used -l in sooo many
backupscripts and they are all doing strange things now when backing
up the / filesystem.
Anyone having this also and could this be fixed or is it me losing it?
