Good news!

I'll order a $0.53 2.7V-trigger "reset supervisor" (e.g., MCP120T-270I/TT) 
in an SOT-23 package and somehow "dead bug" it onto the PCB that's coming.

Thanks for the tip.  I like those SOT-23-5 packages.  Too bad we need 
*two* inverters! :-)

I was going to use tiny a TSSOP-14 package for the '04 hex inverter, but I 
figured that the SOIC-14 is easier for most people to build with.  That's 
also why I stuck to the 0805 surface mount resistors and caps instead of 
the 0603's

So, can I assume that you tested the "input" side of /dev/console by doing 
something like a "login" to the Actiontec uClinux kernel?

That's tests the IRQ logic, which I'd like to get right.
