PPP Server and line simulator

Anybody have any stories to share about setting up the Dual PC Modem as a
PPP server for incoming calls? I see from the archive that this was
considered trivially easy to do, but I'm curious to know if anybody
encountered any problems along the way.

Also, I vaguely remember someone observing that the chipset included some
line simulator hardware, meaning that the Dual PC Modem could
theoretically generate its own dial tone and ring tone. Has anybody
explored this capability further, maybe for the sake of providing a
dial-up server over a leased line or a bare phone cable? I'd appreciate
any help in making this happen if it's possible.

In case you're curious, I'm trying to create a PPP Server appliance for
local devices that have only a modem for network connectivity. Even worse,
most of the software that runs on these devices don't support blind
dialing, meaning they have to hear a dial tone, a ring tone and an answer
tone before the PPP client-side connection kicks in. Being able to run a
plain, unpowered cable from the ActionTec to the Sega Dreamcast would be
much more cost-effective than any of the other elaborate, Rube Goldberg
solutions I have in mind. :)
