Hello... I've been away on a one-plus week off-road trip to Baja California and am now back in San Diego and more or less on-line. I came back with a cold (driving in the rain) to a family with the flu. This is my first day out of the house after 5 days in bed. Jason Raichart is officially gone from Actiontec as of today. I called his office and was vectored to Tony Leung (tleung-z9Lj52+S5JB8UrSeD/[email protected]), a personable fellow that seems interested in helping us resolve the GPL source code issues with the Actiontec Dual PC modem. I have promised him the needed GPS source code patches to their massive GPL release for the Actiontec Dual PC modem. Hopefully, with his assistance, we can *finally* get this thing resolved. Here is a precise list of the updated files that we need released from Actiontec under GPL... /opt/uClinux/linux/.config /opt/uClinux/linux/arch/armnommu/mach-cx821xx/cnxtbsp.c /opt/uClinux/linux/arch/armnommu/mach-cx821xx/cnxtflash.c /opt/uClinux/linux/arch/armnommu/mach-cx821xx/cnxtflash.h /opt/uClinux/linux/arch/armnommu/mach-cx821xx/cnxtirq.c /opt/uClinux/linux/arch/armnommu/mach-cx821xx/gpioisr.c /opt/uClinux/linux/include/asm-armnommu/arch-cx821xx/gpio.h /opt/uClinux/linux/include/linux/cnxtflash.h /opt/uClinux/linux/drivers/mtd/devices/mtdram.c All *except* the first and last source file has a GPL release in the comments. The 4th and 8th files are absolutely identical. The first file is the Linux ".config" file and obviously should be released because it is necessary and correct. (The one on the Actiontec Web site is flat out wrong!) The last file in the above list was clearly derived from a source file that came from the GPL'ed uClinux source library. Someone at Actiontec removed the following from the header: * Copyright (c) 1999 Alexander Larsson <[email protected]> * * This code is GPL * and replaced the copyright notice with... * Copyright (c) 2003 ActionTec and deleted the "This code is GPL" line. Although, much new code was added, I'd have to claim that the code therefore still is GPL because the source code is clearly "derived". Actiontec also should put back the GPL license reference. Note that what *I* did to make things work was to take the above nine source files (origin unspecified) and used them to replace the same files in the official Actiontec GPL release source tree which was taken (unmodified) from the Actiontec Web site. I built a new "linuz" binary, and using the "stock" ROM file system image unmodified, was able to "re-flash" my Actiontec Dual PC modem have it operate flawlessly. I am sending Tony these files today. Hopefully he will post these source files on the Actiontec "support" Web site and *finally* Actiontec will be in full GPL compliance with their product, and we will be back on our way...
