The USB loader concept is fine if the box had a fully functional USB port
included.  More a case modification than anything, really, since the USB is
already on the motherboard, as you say.  Make it out-of-the-box capable of
using USB drive and we're getting somewhere.  The only mod the board really
absolutely needs, IMHO, is more memory for the linux image (though other
things like more RAM might be nice).  Though I never did do any benchmarking
to see how well the unit holds up under a serious load, so I can't say for
sure it would 100% handle the sorts of tasks I'd have in mind for it.
