Re: Virtual Directories in Upnp

Hi Rashmi,

(I suppose you are not subscribed to the list, but I took the liberty to 
CC the list again)

from the top of my head, suppose a upnp media server with the capability 
to convert/scale image files on the fly. Then only one copy of an image 
file is stored on disk, but various URLs are provided for control 
points/media renderers  to request different file formats (e.g. JPEG, 
PNG, GIF, BMP, etc) or sizes (1024x768, 640x480, etc).

Another example (since I noticed you were asking the same question on 
the linux-igd help forum) would be an IGD to register a 'portmap' 
virtual directory. This will not correspond to any 'real' file on the 
disk, but the device may provide a callback that translates the 
requested url to a html page with information about the currently 
defined port forwarding rules. This  page would be constructed on the 
fly (or cached in memory) but would not correspond to a file in the 
filesystem in any case.

But I'm sure other use cases exist.
