I think you might be confused, UPnP is a protocol to discover and
control network based devices. It just so happens a popular network
device which utilizes UPnP are media servers which of course will do
media streaming, but how they implement their streaming is independent
of UPnP. Perhaps an analogy would help, think of UPnP as your remote
control, it can turn your TV on, change channels, etc. but your remote
control has nothing to do with the TV broadcast signal your TV set is
receiving.
