I've used Debian Woody 3.0 recently on Intel and Apple equipment, and found
them almost the same, except for hardware-related software (kernel, fdisk,
installer). No problems compiling software from source or installing soft-
ware specifically written for that version and platform. Of course, the 
amount of foreign (commercial) applications available in binary format
for Linux on Apple is very low. I found a Java SDK, but not the latest
version from Sun.
