Two keyboard / keymapping issues ( Numlock & Multimedia keyboard support )

Having been working with Linux for several years now, I am still annoyed 
with the fact that everytime I install a new distro I have to struggle 
with getting NUMLOCK to default to ON.

Multi-media keyboards have been around for years now and there is still 
no good or easy way support the BACK and FORWARD keys which are my most 
needed.
