What did your quest reveal about how many users suffer from this problem
and how they differ from boxes which do not have the problem?

I sometimes get the same feeling about unfree software and shitty PC hardware
in general. But you may have a point there: I probably won't be the one
who is going to fix this particular problem.

One example of a WYSIWYG word processor with far less bloat than the
competition.
