[PV] I couldn't agree more. I think I've talked about it somewhere else.
Lack of options is a pain only comparable to excess of options. But who will
convince the author of every little very similar application that his wheel
has already been invented? That's open source, I guess.

I'm still waiting for an elegant desktop where not every developer
collaborating in the project wants to put an icon of their own.

Linux needs designers desperately (and I mean usability design, graphical
design, coherence, uniformity, etc., etc., etc.). Linux needs to get rid
somehow of half its developers as well (or just put everyone to the task of
writing drivers and no more desktops, please). Then maybe it'll be in its
way to the home desktop.

Having no head of design I simply can't imagine a future Linux without these
thousand diverging options for everything. Everyone will still be free to
blow it up anytime.

Maybe some company out there makes a brave decision...
