I apologize for saying "proprietary information" in my Part 2 when what I meant was, non-proprietary but essential information that might be provided by hardware manufacturers that could be used by programmers to write drivers, etc., for their hardware. Also, please let me know if this topic is inappropriate for "annoyances". My original impulse to post was less annoyance about Linux than about a certain kind of Linux politics involving the words "free" and "rights". EDC
