Do you have the manual which came with your monitor ?
If so did you enter the Vsync and Hsync refresh rates correctly ?

This always seemed to be the most touchy issue with setting up
the Xserver.

I do agree setting up X in Debian is annoying.
I admit sometimes I use a Red Hat or SuSE install just to
find the monitor parameters, write them down, then go back and
install Debian, then the Xserver with the parameters from the
above distros. It is annoying, but has worked for me.

Subject: [Annoyances] debian install/xserver

I'm new to this list, so this may have been posted already, I dunno.
But, how about setting up the xserver on a debian install?
I've tried three times with different hardware configuratinos and have not successfully done this, yet, once.

AArrggh!
