Wireless w/2.6 kernel: good experience

Hey, guys.

   Okay...  A number of days have blended together and I cannot find the 
original post to reply to concerning "which distribution comes with a 2.6 
kernel" and which also related to Wireless access, something to do with a 
Linksys v4 chipset card.

   Honestly I have no idea about the Linksys v4 issue still - however, my 
experience with my laptop building a 2.6 test kernel (2.6.0-test4) this 
evening was a dream.  Wireless worked immediately, and that's never happened 
before.  Usually I've got to make or install Wavelan.cs drivers seperately, 
even though the card I have is supposed to work right away with the 
orinoco.cs drivers in the 2.4 kernel, but for some reason they never do.

  I did have to recompile the kernel twice, I had some trouble with my mouse.  
The 3c509 network card driver failed to compile also.  I'm not worried about 
it right now.  I'm also having some trouble with my Guarddog firewall, 
probably because the method of detecting iptables in its script fails due to 
the kernel layout not being the same in terms of /proc or /lib/modules 
structure.
   This laptop now seems snappier.

   There is some issue with Nvidia drivers with the 2.5 and 2.6 kernels 
requiring that they be patched, so that's a known issue to watch out for 
there.

   Right now I think only the newest Mandrake beta has a 2.6 test kernel 
available:

   Please note that I am not a Mandrake proponent; I'm merely passing this on 
as it proves my earlier memory was not askew.  :-P



   Anyway - now I'm going to do some work..
