Tonu, I used to get that sort of nonsense all the time running Mandrake (7.x, 8.x). I'm running RH 8.x these days and its no longer a problem. Then I thought, well perhaps I'm running X wide open or something, so I tried setting DISPLAY from one station to that of another, and then running rxvt. The connection was refused. Adding the remote host using "xhost + IPADDR" allowed the connection. I don't know what the config diffs are, but I never did like the Mandrake XWrapper thing, which was a substitute for the XFree86 executable. I agree with you, that is a real annoyance.
