I run Linux at a school (SuSE 8.2) and cut and paste works perfectly.
We see it as an advantage that you dont have to tell the OS to stick 
something on the clipboard and our students are grateful for this behaviour.
Contrary to not thinking about cut and paste the developers have come up with 
an elegant solution.
