Re: Cut-Copy/Paste behavior

What I don't understand about this is if

a) I highlight something (or it is already highlighted) in one window of a 
any linux program I am running

b) then change focus to another window that is running any linux program 
AND in that second window something already happens to be highlighted,

c) the highlighted content in the second window replaces the buffer content 
that was present from the highlighting in the first window.

In this situation, I don't even have to take any highlighting or clicking 
action in order for the contents of the buffer to change.

I am running Red Hat 8 Linux, Gnome 1.2.  This is running through Xwindows 
on a Win95 PC; the windowing is provided by Cygwin which is running 
xwinclip (to allow copy/paste between all linux apps and between all linux 
apps and all windows apps).  When I complained about this behavior on the 
Cygwin X list, I was told that this was normal linux/unix behavior and was 
"correct".

I have a 2-button/wheel MS Intellimouse 1.1A.  It may not be configured 
properly to run in this combination environment, but then again, I haven't 
a clue how to configure it or where (Windows, Cygwin, Gnome, Linux server 
????) -- and the point is that I don't think I should have to.  It is an 
extremely common product and it should simply work -- that this is an issue 
IS an "annoyance".

I don't consider this linux/unix behavior to be "correct", I consider it 
loss of control because I can't copy something in one place, highlight 
something in another place and paste to replace the second-highlighted content.
