tar of gzipped files and please take school argument backchannel

Um, gzip the files first then archive them.  You'll
just have to unzip them when you retrieve the archive.

You can certainly create an archive that consists of
nothing but gzipped files- you can gzip that again
when you're done if you like, although it won't
compress the fille much.  You can have an archive of
archives- they're just files to tar.

And can the school argument please go backchannel?
