1. cannot shutdown because an nfs mount refuses to unmount, usually the /home

NOW THAT is an annoyance.  I only start NFS when necessary for this reason.

The rest of your annoyances are first rate!  BRAVO!  Now THAT is an annoyance list worth paying attention to!
