I don't think most iptables implementations block egress ports used
by specific programs, which is what the original poster claimed 
his (un-named windows firewall did - Probably zone alarm).

Iptables can allow or disallow a port (incomeing or outgoing) but
since the processes useing these ports may well be on a different
machines behind the linux firewall, there is little iptables can
do to assure that it is a trusted application.
