Good question, but I have no answer.  I have an ASL laptop and use a PCMCIA
NIC.  I've used both mandrake and RH (Machine's over three years old now;
still running RH 7.3) and never had the problem.  Never tried any other type
of card, however.

Perhaps because the conditions are mutually exclusive <shrug>.  One precludes

Bloat is not designed for speed. ;o)  I haven't used KDE in a couple of years,
so I'm not certain about any speed gains since then; but I doubt it's as
speedy as Ratposion, my wm of preference at the moment.
KDE (and I guess Gnome for that matter) requires lots of rsources to provide
what ever it is its supposed to provide.
