This will often be a shared library. You either:
- install the needed library
- get an executable compiled on your OS version
- compile the source yourself (simplest solution)

/dev/sg0 maybe? /dev/sga in some cases?

The device special files should be present on a good distro, but you can
create them with the 'mknod' command. 

More often the device driver is missing from the kernel. For Atapi drives
you would have to disable the ide driver for that device and then enable
the ide-scsi driver. 

If you're all set, you use 'cdrecord --scanbus' to find your burner.
