Just so you know; libasound is part of the "libalsa2-devel" package, which is available on Mandrake 9.1's second CD (I use Mandrake 9.1 myself). As a general rule, if a program complains about missing libraries when compiling and installing software, you need to install the devel package of whatever it is it's looking for. The normal (ie, non-devel) packages are for run-time only; the devel packages are needed for compilation.
