Section 1.8 should include the common problem of burning the
downloaded .iso to the cd as a file on the CD instead of as an image.

2.2.4 should probably include using knoppix as a rescue CD, in
addition to the other ones mentioned.

2.3 "Where's that config file?" In here you might address for new
Debian users the Debian habit of splitting a config file up and
then having a script to build a single one, for the purpose of
handling dependencies better.  Look at Debian's /etc/modules.conf
and the upgrade-modules command.

Another thing, although it may be too advanced for that chapter: you
might describe the trick of running a program through strace and
grepping the output for "open(" in order to track down every file the
program uses.

In Section 7.1, be sure to mention abiword, which is a smaller faster
word replacement than Open Office, which recently added a number of
previously missing features (such as tables).

In section 7.3 or 7.4, which ever is appropriate, mention the program
winSCP:

For many smaller setups, especially is the administrator is not
experienced with linux, giving everyone an account on a linux machine
and installing winscp on their windows computers is easier than
setting up samba.

In chapter 8 there should be a section on making a NAT'ing gateway
router out of a linux machine with 2 network devices in it.  The
simple case of a small home or office network on cable or DSL is what
matters here, because that is what the dangerously inexperienced
administrators out there are likely to be trying to do.
