Indeed. I am, I guess, glad to hear that Dimitry Sklyarov was
freed by the efforts of peope on an E-list, although it certainly
makes me and my efforts look silly. (I was never on this E-list,
although I called both my Senators and my Congressman about
Sklyarov)
Silly me! I had hoped that the announcement that there was an E-List
available for people to use to organize around getting Linux into
government would spread by word of mouth, especially when I offered
to deliver paper printed letters to Members of Congress(better than
snail-mail which must be de-anthraxed, and E-mail, which is for obvious
reasons totally useless). It didn't. An article in Newsforge about
linux-pe brought several new members.
I have asked the present membership, about 60 people, to ask a friend/colleague
to join; no response. I've asked people here -- I don't know how many
people are here -- to join. No response.
Meanwhile, our esteemed adversary is chipping away at us in all kinds of
ways. But perhaps more important, people in our community are IMHO missing
out on lots of ways to influence their local governments. This can be
done, but not by one person. I am convinced that if we had twenty people,
ten from Maryland and ten from Western Virginia(Rick Boucher's district)
we could go a long way toward getting Linux into the House of Representatives.
But at the present time we don't have those people.
Suggestions are as always welcome. Of course I'd rather have this discussion
where it belongs, on linux-pe.
To join, go to: http://www.tux.org/mailman/listinfo/linux-pe
and follow instructions. 'Tain't hard!<g>
Best wishes,
Alan
