It is an usb2.0 high speed devce (while the scanner is usb 1) and I don't seem to have probs with the cardreader. I didn't quite get which modules to unload. I ditched all of usb and I tried usb_storage alone. Doesn't seem to make a problem. But the card reader is self-powered while the scanner is not.
