Fwd: USB over IP suport in Wireshark, useful?

Hope this is the correct mailinglist.

My name is Ronnie Sahlberg, one of the core developers of wireshark.


There are many "exotic" USB devices that only come with windows drivers.
For Windows there are many different USBoverIP clients and servers available.
Wireshark supports (limited) dissection of the USB protocol when
captured from a linux host.

Since Wireshark already supports basic USB frame dissection it would
be semi-easy to implement
a thin dissector for one of the mappings of USB to IP.


Would it be helpful for linux usb device driver developers to have a
wireshark dissector that could capture and show the USB
data passed between one such windows client and a windows server for
USB over IP?
This would allow easy viewing what kind of data the native
vendorprovided windows driver for the device use to initialize and
drive the device.


Would this be something that would be useful for you guys?
 If so, if you pick one of the available windows USBoverIP
implementations, I can have a go at writing a dissector for it for
wireshark.
