XU870 (airprime) crash and misbehaviour

Hello,

I have encountered a strange bug that causes the serial interface of my
Novatel Merlin XU870 HSDPA card to fail and repeatedly cause a kernel
panic when written to but not read from, and to exhibit some bizarre
character replication (perhaps not clearing a buffer or double
triggering on an interrupt) when written to while being read from.

After some early research a few weeks ago I filed this as a kernel bug
report #7858.  More information including log traces are listed in the
bug report.

Any assistance is appreciated.
