I think it's going to have to be done on a per-subsystem basis, but
hopefully all the subsystems will at least go through the same sysfs
file so as to make a semblance of uniformity.

Yes, I don't have a problem with that.  Make sure you add it to the
proper place in Documetation/ABI saying it's very experimental, and then
you have the freedom to change it over time.
