Do you have any evidence that Rene actually intended to submit his
patch in UTF-8? It would not be quite so bad if he did - and if we ever
sent mail in UTF-8.

The reality is, we either disallow patches in mail outside of attachements,
or disallow non-ASCII names. You can't have both. Personally, I have no
preference, but pretending that this is not a problem is impossible.

I also would like to address your bogus point about "misspellings",
althogh it has no bearing on what the problems with patches and mail is.
Basically, if you allow Europeans to use their characters, this becomes
acceptable too:

+ * Copyright (c) 2007 ピート　ザイツェヴ <[email protected]>

In other words, Rene's name does not contain an accented character
in the locale that we, kernel hackers, use, which is C. It might
have one in his native language, or even in English, but that's
irrelevant.
