Why do you say that? It's certainly the simplest (and I suspect the easiest to understand!) but I don't think that would help much here. (Except maybe for the "what is this supposed to do" learning curve.) The iMX21 hardware seems OHCI-ish, modulo some OTG additions that I'd expect are turned off in that code.
