Yes.  Putting all these changes into a correct logical sequence was 
tricky, and it looks like I blew it with that one change -- it should 
have come before this one.  In the end everything ought to work out 
okay, though.

If you want, I can submit that other patch and ask Greg to insert it 
as 3.5/4 in this sequence.
