US_FL_FIX_CAPACITY is for devices that report one more sector than they really have, and so you can crash the device by reading off the end of it. US_FL_IGNORE_RESIDUE is for devices that mis-report what they were and were unable to read, which would cause the issue you described. > I guess that would be sufficient, but I'll try the three ways at home just in > case (and to learn how to use gentoo's genkernel!!), and let you know if you > want me to. That would be great. If you'd like to generate a new patch, I'll ACK it... otherwise I'll gen one next week. -- Phil Dibowitz [email protected] Open Source software and tech docs Insanity Palace of Metallica http://www.phildev.net/ http://www.ipom.com/ "Never write it in C if you can do it in 'awk'; Never do it in 'awk' if 'sed' can handle it; Never use 'sed' when 'tr' can do the job; Never invoke 'tr' when 'cat' is sufficient; Avoid using 'cat' whenever possible" -- Taylor's Laws of Programming ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc.
