I don't see how systool could reasonably be extended as you suggest. It would have to know how to communicate with USB devices. But then people would want it to communicate with ATA devices, and with PCI devices, and with SCSI devices, ... It's a never-ending process. Face it, systool was meant _only_ for displaying the internal values stored in sysfs. It wasn't meant for device communication.
