Strike "root", that was an accident.  External hubs need that field,
even on ARC-derived silicon.

Yeah, but such a patent would be expring around 2020, at which point
its not clear new EHCI silicon would be getting designed...

By that time we may be seeing USB 4.0 or USB 5.0 ...
