short SMART self-test is extremely slow

Hi,

I posted the following on the Seagate forum, but never got a reply. I 
wonder if you know what is going on here?

I have an old 400 GB Seagate Barracuda ES drive (ST3400620NS). I 
regularly run short and long self-tests on this (and other) disks. The 
quoted polling time for a short self-test on this disk is 1 minute. 
However, lately I find that this test takes much, much longer. The last 
test was started more than 2 days ago and still has 10% to go. When a 
test finishes, it always says "Completed without error". Otherwise I see 
no suspicious behavior of the disk. The number of replaced sectors is 
45, but has been stable at that number for some time. Sustained read 
speed from the disk seems normal (74 MB/s).

Is this a sign of a failing disk? Or is it a firmware problem? Is there 
a way to get the polling time for self tests back to normal?
