Previously removed hard disk detected

Hello,

I have changed a hard disk from a laptop (cloned system) and reinstalled smartmontools for Windows.
The smartd.conf file contains only one DEVICESCAN line but i keep getting mails about the previous installed hard disk.
Is there anything i can do to prevent this behavior ?
Where does smartmontools "detect" the disks ?
