Can't get SMART details from one drive in a two-bay enclosure

Hi Guys,

I have a Mediasonic 2-bay eSATA enclosure (chipset is jms539, Mediasonic part # is HUR1-SU3S2). This is connected to my PC via on-board eSATA port. I've also tried connecting via Silicon Image SiI3132 controller card. Both connections result in only one of the drives showing detailed smart output (smartctl -a). If I swap the drives in the enclosure, I get the other drive's details, but not the other.

Both drives will report things like model #, serial, etc. But only one will show detailed counters like read errors, spin up times, etc.

I recently borrowed a 2-port eSATA HDD dock from work and it correctly shows both connected drives smart details.

Is this a problem with my enclosure? Or is there something I can do on the software/config side?

Thanks!
