I'm a newbie, trying to disable a Hitachi HD failure message with
smartmontools. After selecting the menu example of "smartctl -s off sda"
and running the attributes, the Smart function is disabled, but when I
restart the laptop, the failure message reappears and smartmontools shows
it has been enabled again. I can't find this FAQ in the archives, so what
am I doing wrong?
