Test done on disks behind a HBA.

Hi all,

I have disks directly connected to the motherboard and in an enclosure.

I have plenty of disks but SDA is representative for those attached
directly and SDJ is representative for those behind the LSI HBA 9205, in
the encliosure.

I want to monitor the status of the hard disks and I wonder if for the
disks like sdj the returned status OK has the same meaning of PASSED.

What is the difference in the test run, if any, on the two disks?

I need to write a script that checks the disk every 4 hours for a NAS and I
must know if the disks like sdj are correctly monitored. I tried to use the
switch -d sat on it but I get the following error

Smartctl: Device Read Identity Failed: scsi error unsupported scsi opcode

A mandatory SMART command failed: exiting. To continue, add one or more '-T
permissive' options.

Adding "-T permissive" doesn't help much.
