Yes, I have a program that I can use to perform the secure erase operation, and I am aware that this will eliminate the HPA, however running that (secure erase) operation can take many hours. I would like to know how to eliminate the HPA *without* having to spend hours and hours performing a pointless secure erase operation. I believe that there should be a way to do this, perhaps even using smartmontools. I am seeking some tool that will allow me to issue the ATA command "SET MAX ADDRESS" to the drive.
