As other messages in this thread indicate you already figured out, you do need to do some sort of write to that sector to get the firmware to remap it and thus clear the Pending Sector count (and allow the SMART self tests to complete without error). The fact that this sector is already listed in the bad cluster list just means you can go ahead and overwrite it without worring at all about what file you would be corrupting in the process (i.e. it tells you that sector is not part of any actual NTFS file).
